FIRST: From the Borough:

To access the following websites, copy and paste the web address into your tool bar in your search engine

During the new national lockdown, people are being urged to stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives.

For full details on what you can and cannot do, please visit the Government’s website:-

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/national-lockdown-stay-at-home#summary-what-you-can-and-cannot-do-during-the-national-lockdown

Below is a list of the council services that will remain open/in operation for the duration of the lockdown, unless the Government advises otherwise.

Waste and recycling

Stafferton Way Household Waste and Recycling Centre in Maidenhead remains open between 8am and 4.15pm, with social distancing rules in place. For more details:-

Household waste and recycling collections are also unaffected but please note that temporary revised collections to cover the festive period are in place until Monday 18 January:-

Lateral flow testing for secondary age children

Secondary age children who are authorised to attend school during lockdown will receive a weekly lateral flow test to help detect asymptomatic cases.

This is part of the secondary school testing scheme announced by the Government in December, which all parents of secondary aged children should already be aware of, but which will now only be given to those children and staff who attend school during the lockdown.

Adult social care

Our adult social care provider, Optalis, will continue to operate during lockdown in accordance with the latest Government guidance.

They are also arranging additional support for vulnerable residents and those who are shielding, as they did in the first national lockdown in March last year.

Optalis is also working with local NHS partners to support safe discharges from hospital to free up capacity where possible.

Business support

The Government has announced there will be a new grant for local businesses this lockdown, but we have been advised that guidance is unlikely to be provided to us until next week.

As soon as we have the information, we will publish it on our website and social media channels, so keep checking them for regular updates.

Libraries

You can continue to click and collect at Maidenhead Library and Windsor Library. Simply request your books:-

Our libraries’ online events are also not affected.

MEMBERS’ COMMENTS:-

FIRST: - A bank scam:

Hi Jeff, I just received a presumed scam message to my mobile phone.

It supposedly comes from my bank.

Apparently someone has tried to access my account from an unrecognised device. I could authorise the transaction if it was me by clicking on the LINK !

The mobile number was all wrong; Firstly, the message came from a mobile and secondly – it was international?

I assumed it was a scam and deleted it?

Kind regards, Paul

Exactly Paul and you are not alone:-

Hi Jeff
We have received a couple odd scam SMS Texts - one we nearly fell for and the second one , we are  better informed and experienced.

The text appears to come from a bank or Credit Card Company and we happen to have an account with each of these.

The key is that the text is from a mobile phone and is a scam. I simply blocked the number. We had not added any new payment contacts, so were immediately defensive, and if we had logged onto the link, they would have requested sensitive data that would have allowed access to our account.

The second was supposedly from our building society- which I didn't spot immediately. More devious, as it didn’t rely on previous personal involvement with the reported action!!!

I did actually follow the link (it was very good copy of the building society website) and started to enter my data, but got suspicious when the site did not respond.  I then rang the number on then link - no response !
I exited the site immediately and cleared the cache.

I rang building society, using the Tel No on the back of my card.  I Reported the incident, changed my password, The building society assured me that it was a scam and that no transactions had taken place. Their 2nd Stage verification system was not breached.

Hope this helps others. My wife and I are very cautious and experienced , so it was a wakeup call..

Regards
Herb

Thanks Herb, don’t feel badly – these people are really good at what they do !

ALWAYS – BREATHE – THINK – AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES BEFORE RESPONDING.
