WE HAVE YET ANOTHER SEXTORTION CASE !
A local man was speaking to a woman on a dating site. She suggested they meet and talk on another platform, which they did.
The man then carried out intimate acts. The image on screen immediately changed to a man, who said he had videoed what had just taken place and demanding £600. If this was not paid, he would circulate the video to everyone in his personal address book !!!
This appears to be happening almost every day ! It causes huge embarrassment and concern.
PLEASE – PLEASE – DO NOT SAY, DO, WRITE OR VIDEO ANYTHING ONLINE OR BY TEXT – THAT YOU WOULD NOT WANT YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS, WORK COLLEAGUES – OR EMPLOYER – TO SEE !!!
Request from Elaine Keating – Achieving for Children
Hi Jeff,
Can you circulate please,
The ‘RBWM Youth Ambassadors’ are running the Youth Voice Youth Choice Funding Scheme competition once again. This is a wonderful opportunity to be in with a chance to win money to help fund local youth projects.
There are four category slots -
Schools - Youth Groups - Charities - Individuals
The maximum prize is £1,500 for groups and £500 for individuals. There is a total fund of £10,000 with two winners in each category.
The competition is now open and we are accepting applications until 5pm Thursday 25th February, so now is the time for young people to apply for any project that will benefit them and/or people in their community.
I would encourage young people to apply for funding within any relevant category - for example:
If a young person attends a youth group: cubs, kayak club, music group, youth club or any other group - they could apply in that category, where all attendees would benefit from a project.
If a person has been working on a personal project – sports, music, etc., they could benefit from the cash, to support their chosen individual hobby.
If a registered charity does work either direct or indirect work with young people in the RBWM I’d encourage them to apply with the support of the young people they work with.
If you would like further information I am more than happy to talk to young people, or the named adult on the application form, to explain the process.
Kind regards,
Elaine

MEMBERS’ COMMENTS:
FIRST: THE HMRC SCAM
Hi Jeff.
I’ve just had my very savvy daughter on the phone really upset, because she’d had a call from HMRC, saying there was a warrant out for her arrest unless she pays her tax in full. She confirmed her name, but thankfully, no other details.
She was worried, as she’s not long been self-employed and has recently done her first self-assessment and paid the tax due. The timing was perfect to worry her. She asked them questions, but they were very convincing in their answers.
I assured her it’s a scam and that HMRC would write an official letter if it were true.
I wish HMRC would do a TV ad or some making people aware of these calls and not to respond as a lot of people are still being taken in.
Karen
This is a standard scam call that has been going for several years now.
It is really worrying and we have had dozens of emails over that time, from people who were really concerned, when they got one of these calls. The caller says they are from HMRC and states that there is tax outstanding from – usually – some years ago, to make it vague. The victim can pay the outstanding balance immediately over the phone to prevent further consequences. The HMRC have already been to court and have a judgement for the full amount outstanding. If they don’t pay, they have already issued a warrant for arrest, which has been sent to the local police station and there is a police officer on standby, waiting for their call, as to whether or not to attend immediately and make an arrest.
As always – the scammers are really good at what they do and are both convincing and threatening. As always, if you get one of these calls …
BREATHE – STOP AND PAUSE – TAKE A MOMENT TO THINK – THEN JUST PUT THE PHONE DOWN
We - as you know - do our best via the Alert system to spread the message. There are TV programmes outlining these scams, but there are now so many every day, it is impossible to keep up. We always have to remember - this is the scammers full time job. This is all they do all day, day after day.
They hone their skills through hundreds of calls and each time someone tells them not to bother it is obviously a scam, they learn through trial and error approaches how to improve their success rate. We must be on our guard. We must act as public guardians – because we have the necessary information – and pass on the advice about each new scam to all our friends, relatives, neighbours and work colleagues.
