MEMBERS’ COMMENTS:

Hi Jeff

Yet another scam.  It says it’s from the “Royal Group”.

It says they tried to deliver a parcel, but there was no-where safe to leave it.  We must click on the LINK to book another delivery date.  To make it sound authentic, there is a lot about organising delivery, standing away from the door, wear a mask etc. etc.

A friend of mine yesterday thought it was real and got scammed.  She had to close her bank account !!

Thanks.

Charmian

Thanks Charmian.  As we are isolating, many of us are increasingly buying online, so there is always a possibility, we are waiting for one or more deliveries at any one moment !!!  This is the perfect time for scammers !

NEXT: From Mike:

Hi Jeff,

Not sure if I am being picked upon but here is another !

It is from ‘One Drive’.  It says I have a message from someone, I have not opened.  To open and read the document – Click here !!!

I did not !

Without your emails, I am sure I would have fallen for this one, so thank you.

All the best
Mike

Thanks Mike.  Some days with all the scam emails, texts and phone calls – I am in a spin and it becomes really annoying.  The scammers – usually someone from a call centre, does reap the whirlwind !
Fortunately, due to the pandemic, most of us are living very simple, slower lives at the moment, not going out apart from for exercise, so the scam messages, are more obvious and stand out.  If we were busy and frenetic, it would be easier to fool us !!!

NEXT: From Nina:

Hi Jeff,
Please can you kindly advise me ?  A family member received a mobile message today at 3 p.m.  It says it’s from West Border - Welsh Police who are investigating them.  They want their name and NI number.  They are to press 1 and then 2.

I think it’s a scam – is it ?

Much appreciated

Kind regards

Nina

Yes – it is a standard scam.  The local Police in Wales, would surely know their name, if they were being investigated ?  That immediately helps identify the message as a scam – it has been sent to thousands – they haven’t a clue who has received it, so need the name and details, if they respond !!

NEXT: From Bruce:

Hi Jeff,

We had an email this morning from the "Billing Department at BT. Com"

It requested name, credit card details, sort code etc..

I have alerted BT fraud department via my home phone, as it is clearly a scam. Please advise others in our group

Bruce

Many thanks Bruce – I will – and have !  Anything asking for your name, is an immediate giveaway !  The BT Fraud department will be grateful you let them know as they will investigate and try to block the IP address of the computer which sent it.

NEXT: From Tony:

Hi Jeff

Just received a pre-recorded call from ‘Amazon Prime’, saying that my card had just been debited by £399.99.

I am an Amazon Prime member, so could have been fooled.

As soon as I heard the start of the message, I blocked immediately, so did not hear it all.  I presume I would have been asked to press something and the enter account or card details etc..

Pease circulate

Tony

Tony mentioned the mobile number from which the robo-call was made.  These are always fake, to hide a real international number.  The scammers have software, to display a local number, if you have call display.  PLEASE – everyone do what Tony did – as soon as you hear the content of the call, cancel and block it !!

NEXT: From Nigel – a warning message he received from a neighbour on ‘NEXTDOOR’ !

This morning I received a call from Internet provider, without mentioning a company name, nor who that is.

The message said that I’m about to be cut off, because of illegal activities.

The message then gave an option - to contact one of their executives, to sort out the problem – Click Here
I didn’t of course.

Nigel

These scams are out there – NEVER CLICK ON A LINK UNLESS YOU ARE SURE, ITS GENUINE !

NEXT:  A Windows scam message from Stephanie

It simply says that Microsoft has not had any response from various messages they have sent – consequently they will be closing her account.

To prevent this – she needs to click on the link immediately to rectify the situation if she want to continue to use her account !!!  If she doesn’t – they will close her account without her permission !

DON’T DO IT - PAUSE – BREATHE – THINK – BIN IT !
