Two stretches of the M4 will be closed this weekend for resurfacing work.

The motorway will be shut near Heathrow and the M25 interchange for the entire weekend as part of the smart motorways project.

Drivers who need to make essential journeys, are urged to leave more time.

The M4 westbound will be shut between junctions 3 for Hayes and 4b (M25 interchange), while the eastbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 4 for Heathrow and 4b (M25 interchange).

The closures will begin at 9pm on Friday, February 26 with the motorway remaining closed until 6am on Monday, March 1.

Highways England contractors will be resurfacing the motorway and adding trenches for drainage piping and utilities ducting as part of the £848m project to convert the road into four running lanes.
