Travellers face new charges at Heathrow Airport as new rules are introduced on travel.

A new list of additional costs have been introduced from the beginning of 2021 and is to try to help recover some of the millions of pounds lost by airlines during the pandemic.

The airport recently announced a loss of £2 billion due to the impact of the pandemic, which has had a massive impact on travel.

The airline has put a new £8.90 fee called an "Airport Cost Recovery Charge" for every departing passenger.

The airport says: "This charge has been introduced at the request of the airlines as an alternative way to recover costs related to airline [Other Regulated Charges] such as Baggage, PRS, FEGP and Common Use IT".

There is potential that the charge could be "adjusted during the year to achieve full cost recovery", and the company has added that it could be removed entirely by December 31, 2021.

Other fees include a £3.67 fee for baggage services, as well as 55p to check in.

The additional costs are likely to be absorbed into the price of a ticket.

The government's roadmap currently includes resuming foreign travel on May 17, but this is subject to a review in April which will be carried out by a Global Travel Taskforce being assembled by the government.

What are the new rules?

From Monday, March 8, passengers travelling abroad must carry a form that proves their trip is allowed under lockdown rules.

Anyone failing to do this could be fined £200.

The purpose of it is to crack down on people making illegal trips, as holidays remain illegal.

The form needs to be downloaded, signed and carried or downloaded onto a mobile phone.

Anyone travelling from England outside the UK needs to complete it.
