FIRST:  Mayor and Deputy Mayor re-elected

Our new Mayor and Deputy Mayor were re-elected during a short virtual ceremony, at our annual council meeting earlier this week.

Councillor John Story has been re-elected Mayor and will continue in the role until May 2022 with Councillor Gary Muir also continuing as deputy.
Councillor Story was initially elected as Mayor in December, after last year’s meeting was postponed due to COVID-19 and he will now complete a full term of office.
He will be supported throughout by his wife, Mrs Barbara Story.
Councillor Story said: “I’m very proud and honoured to have been re-elected and given the opportunity to represent the borough again as Mayor.
“I hope that during my year, as we emerge from lockdown, I will have more chance to spend a greater amount of time around the borough I am proud to call my home promoting the wide range of work done by our charities, businesses and other organisations, as well as meeting my fellow residents.
“I have had a long and close association with the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead. I’m proud to call myself a resident and I’m very much looking forward to acting as a champion for the borough.
“Supporting our residents, businesses, schools and charities, as well as all frontline staff including those in the council, the NHS and local care homes to help recover from the pandemic remains a priority.”
Councillor Muir will be supported by his partner, Deputy Mayoress, Ms Caron North.
The former Mayor, Councillor Sayonara Luxton, extended her term of office for six months to December last year because of the pandemic.

NEXT:  New fines for dog foul and anti-social cycling

From Wednesday 9 June, you could be given a £100 fine for failing to:

Clean up after your dog
Putting an out of control animal on a lead if asked to do so by a police constable or authorised community officer
You could also be fined for cycling in pedestrianised areas of Maidenhead High Street, or Peascod Street in Windsor.

These two new Public Spaces Protection Orders are aimed at tackling dog foul, dog control, and anti-social cycling in the Royal Borough.

Two new Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour in the borough are to be introduced.
The orders will help to tackle dog fouling and dog control as well as cycling on the highway.
Full Council agreed on Tuesday 27 April to the PSPOs (Public Space Protection Order) which will be in place for three years.
These are:
• A borough-wide order to help tackle dog fouling and ineffective dog control
• An order to tackle cycling on the highway in pedestrianised zones in High Street, Maidenhead and Peascod Street, Windsor
Councillor David Cannon, lead member for public protection and parking, said: “I’m pleased the council has shown its support for the orders.
“Community wardens have received many reports in relation to dog fouling and out of control dogs. They have also witnessed many incidents of people cycling through pedestrianised zones and causing alarm and distress to residents.
“The borough has also received many requests for the pedestrian zones to be upheld as pedestrian only use, and that cyclists be required to dismount and not cycle through these areas.
“We hope that these two new Public Spaces Protection Orders will provide our officers with the tools they need to tackle the unacceptable behaviours of a small minority and improve the lives of everyone in the borough.”
The orders mean that anyone responsible for a dog must clear up after it, or place the animal on a lead if asked to do so by a police constable or an authorised council officer should the dog/s be considered to be out of control.
The orders are expected to come into effect from around Wednesday 9 June.
Anyone who fails to comply could face a fine of £100, reduced to £75 if paid within 10 days.
The same applies to anyone cycling in the pedestrianised areas outlined above.
