www.oneslough.org.uk/volunteerThe NHS is calling on local residents, aged 16 and over, who are fit and healthy, to volunteer to help East Berkshire and Bucks residents to get vaccinated in the response to Covid-19.
The NHS, is vaccinating residents who live within a 45 mile radius, at the nationally recognised Salt Hill Park Vaccination Centre, with the help and support of over 400 volunteers every month.
Around 33,000 residents have attended the centre to have their vaccinations — you may be one of them. As many of our volunteers return to work, it is crucial that NHS staff can continue to concentrate on the job at hand, vaccinate as many people as possible quickly and efficiently.
NHS Vaccination Centre volunteers, provide a warm welcome, screen local residents in the car park and as they enter the centres, make sure everyone sanitises their hands, chairs are cleaned and everyone maintains social distancing. They know that every time they volunteer, they are making a difference. In return for a six-hour shift, we provide free parking, full PPE, refreshments and a sociable atmosphere. When not doing this valuable work, they assist us with the Guard Change every day – when it starts again shortly – in Windsor Town Centre !
NEXT: THE SILVER LINE:
This is a group of volunteers that agree to spend a little of their time phoning people, who have limited access to friends and relatives. Some are housebound / isolated / unwell and rarely get out to meet and interact with people. Receiving a weekly call from a Silver Line volunteer, can be a lifesaver and over time, relationships and friendships are made.
At this time, Silver Line is not looking for volunteers to make calls, but feel, as many people have become more isolated during the lockdown, we need to remind everyone that this service is available. Do you know someone that is housebound and isolated ? If so, pass them the details of Silver Line and the FREE phone number
The Silver Line operates the only confidential, free helpline for older people across the UK that’s open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year.
We also offer telephone friendship, where we match volunteers with older people based on their interests, facilitated group calls, and help to connect people with local services in their area.

The phone number is easy to remember as it is 0800 – meaning it is a free call from landlines – for – those who are 70, 80 & 90 years old !!!

protect and support older people who are suffering abuse and neglect
Silver Circles
Silver Circles, are facilitated group phone calls, where people with shared interests, can discuss topics that interest them with a wider small group of 6 to 8 people. Calls are free for people taking part, as costs are covered by The Silver Line. Some groups may be philatelists, gardeners, were land girls during the war, seamstresses, teachers etc. etc. those who have similar interests, but may be at various ends of the country.
Silver Connects
The Silver Connects team provides older people with support, advice, and help with connecting to local services. Since launching in November 2015, the team has worked on issues ranging from housing and health, to finding lunch clubs and even financial concerns.
As we get older, it’s not as easy to stay in touch with people, but you still want to tell someone about your day, share a thought or a joke, or talk about a problem. Being able to have a conversation with someone about the big or small things in life, is a very important part of anyone’s day.

Who can use The Silver Line Helpline?
The Silver Line is a Helpline for people aged 55 and over.
Helpline calls are free
We rely entirely on donations from organisations and people who care about the welfare and safety of older people.
Helpline calls are confidential
The Silver Line is a confidential service. Callers are free to express their feelings, and describe their lives honestly, and can trust us to respect their privacy. In cases of abuse or neglect, we will involve specialist safeguarding organisations such as ‘Action’ on ‘Elder Abuse’ or the appropriate Social Services team or the Police. We record calls but only for training, supervision and safeguarding purposes.
