This message has just been circulated by the Borough Council:

Grab a COVID-19 jab this weekend

The NHS is again holding walk-in vaccine centres in the Royal Borough this weekend:
•            Maidenhead - The Desborough Suite, Maidenhead Town Hall, 8.30am to 5pm (Saturday) and 8.30am to 12.15pm (Sunday)
•            Windsor – Windsor Yards (in the former Lakeland unit), 10am to 2pm (just Saturday) Pfizer only. (Also, next Tuesday 6 July, 9.30am to 5pm, for both vaccines, first and second doses.)

Maidenhead will be offering first and second Pfizer doses if you’re aged 18 to 39, as well as first and second AstraZeneca doses if you’re aged 40+. You can get your second jab for both vaccines if you’ve had your first dose in the past eight or more weeks - even if you’ve already booked it elsewhere. But please don't go to either venue if you've COVID-19 symptoms or feel unwell.

Last week, we said Windsor’s walk-in sessions would be running on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The NHS however says it had to suspend set days at the site to balance walk-in footfall against existing vaccine appointments - and is looking at alternative options.

Please find attached some assets you may find useful.

Mobile testing across the Royal Borough

•            Datchet, Horton and Wraysbury – Next Monday (5 July), we’re due to be at Champney Hall, Stanwell Road, in Horton, from 9am to 1pm. We plan to be there every Monday for the next four
weeks. You can collect free lateral flow tests to do at home or, if you need help doing them – we can assist you on site
•            Belmont - Yesterday saw the second visit of our mobile testing unit, accompanied by a GP giving vaccines, stationed at the entrance to Oaken Grove Park in Courthouse Rd. We plan to return
there on Thursdays, 8.30am to 1pm, for the next three weeks

Remember, even double jabbed you can catch the virus - showing no symptoms - and infect those still waiting to be fully vaccinated. And of course, you can still catch it and have symptoms, although its severity should be reduced. Taking twice-weekly lateral flow tests (LFTs) are still the best way to protect those around you. They're free and easy to use. There are many ways to get hold of free LFTs.

Royal Borough statistics

Royal Borough rates are now nearly double that of last week at 106.3 per 100,000 as of today. Our highest transmission rate is now among ages 19 to 24 as this group is still being vaccinated. Less than 60% of all ages across the borough have so far had both doses, so we've still got a way to go.

This is why the NHS says it's in a difficult situation. It says it's already stretched, trying to clear its backlog caused by the pandemic as well as coping with a sharp rise in urgent and primary care such as mental health. It says an increase in COVID-19 cases at this time would severely disrupt this.
