FIRST: VIDEO DOORBELLS:

I may have given out the wrong web address for the Video Doorbell Frequently Asked Questions.  If so, this is the correct detail:

You first port of call, should be the website the Gurus have created, which has a series of FAQs that may answer all your questions:

https://sites.google.com/view/videodoorbells/getting-started

Once you have visited the site to see if all your questions have been answered, you can email Valerie Pike the Chair of the Windsor & Ascot NHW Association for a referral to one of her Volunteer NHW Video Doorbell Gurus !

NEXT:  ANOTHER SEXTORTION:

A young man was online in a chat room with a person he did not know.  They asked him to go to another App, were they could see each other.  During that conversation, they engaged in intimate acts.  Immediately he received a message to say that they had a screenshot of him.  The scammer then asked the young man how much he was willing to pay, to not have this picture released.  The young man eventually agreed to pay £500, as this was all he had.
The scammer asked the young man to down another App to send the money.  He did this and the scammer asked for the money to be sent to a bank account in the Ivory Coast. The young man was about to send the money, but asked his parents for his bank details and at this point they have become aware and alerted police. No money was sent to the suspect.

ONCE AGAIN – DO NOT SAY, WRITE, TEXT, VIDEO,  ANYTHING ONLINE THAT YOU WOULD NOT BE HAPPY FOR YOUR PARENTS, RELATIVES, FRIENDS, SCHOOL, COLLEGE, NEIGHBOURS, WORK COLLEAGUES – EVERYONE IN YOUR PERSONAL ADDRESS BOOK TO SEE AND WATCH !!!

DON’T LET IT HAPPEN TO YOU !

NEXT:  Robert has sent me the link to the September Fraud Newsletter, sent out by Surrey Police:

https://assets.neighbourhoodalert.co.uk/images/site_images/80141_Fraud_Newsletter__September_2021_.pdf

It has details of Holiday Frauds, Pet Frauds and Text Scams.

Ignore the contact details in the handout they produce, report them to TVP, apart from Action Fraud !

NEXT:  Report of a suspicious Charity Collector going door to door:

A witness reports that they have video doorbell footage of a man knocking on doors in Walker Road on 29th August.  He claimed he was collecting for the TV Hospice.  He didn't wait for us to answer the door, but can be seen noting down information on his mobile phone.  On the 30th August, he was also in Orchard Close. He has an unusual accent, fairly young with mid/long length bushy hair and was wearing a visor and a bright yellow hi viz coat.

As you will all know from previous messages – charity collectors who go door to door, can no longer accept cash.  Insurance companies won’t cover them for violent robbery.  What they will ask you to sign, is a Standing Order !

Many years ago, we were happy to sign and give out cheques like confetti.  A cheque has the name of your bank, your bank account number, the sort code, and of course your signature !  We now live in different times and you would not give your bank details, to a stranger in a coffee shop, who leaned over and asked for it !

The same applies to anyone who calls door to door.  You cannot complete and hand to them, a Standing order.  Even if they show you an ID – it is irrelevant, as you do not know what a genuine ID looks like for that charity.  Our Licensing Officer here in the office, has a pile of fake IDs / driving licenses, young people have purchased online, to be able to purchase alcohol / get into clubs !  They are really inexpensive and look totally genuine.  As you don’t know what the ID should look like – don’t take the risk !

If the charity is one you support, ask the person to leave a blank form with you and you will complete it and send it back yourself.  Most of the charities have websites where you can do this, or a shop you can go into.

Please remember our NHW motto:

I am sorry, I do not buy goods and services at the door – and that includes standing orders !
