FIRST A VARIATION OF THE COURIER FRAUD:
A few days before 12TH November, the victim received a call purporting to come from their building society. They persuaded her to ‘take out a loan’ for £10,000 on the spot and explained that the repayments were to be paid into two different bank accounts. The first payments failed, but eventually one went through for nearly £2,000. The victim was then contacted again and asked to go into the building society and withdraw £500 in £20 notes, as well as going to a currency exchange and obtaining 2,400 Euros. They did this and a courier attended, to collect this cash.
Since then, there have been two other transfers of the interest payments, of just under £2,000 each and an attempt has been made to access the victim’s NS & I premium Bond account.
The victim has at last realised they have been scammed and went to the building society, to see if there was any way the money could be returned.
The building Society are investigating, but hold out little hope of any money being returned. As the account with NS & I was marked as pending – that could possibly be cancelled and protected.
Please pass this onto everyone you know. Potential victims are not all elderly and vulnerable. Any one of us could fall as the scammers are brilliant at what they do and always catch you off guard, bombarding your with questions and information, until you submit ! It is a very well-honed scam – and they are very good at it !

A scammer knocked on the door of various apartments selling cheap plastic products. 1 the victim bought 4 very cheap items and paid £50. 2. 20/11 Saturday 7.30 p.m. / 10 p.m. Woodhurst Road. Someone has thrown a bucket of paint over a house sign. Ref. No: 432310526146
RIVERSIDE & BELMONT:
19/11 Friday 2 p.m. Ray Mill Road east. A resident was approached by a man in the street and asked if he wanted to buy an iPhone 13 and a MacBook Pro for £600. The resident agreed a price of £290, which he handed over. When they got home, they found the laptop bag contained 2 bottles of water !!! Ref. No: 43210523946
