The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead’s Corporate Plan was agreed by Full Council on 23 November and will now come into force.
A Corporate Plan is the golden thread running through and linking all decision-making in the council to ensure the headline areas where change needs to be driven the most across the Royal Borough is co-ordinated.
It enables the council to make sure its efforts and resources are directed at the right issues across the borough. At its heart is the desire to create a sustainable borough of opportunity and innovation for everyone.
Its adoption follows consultation this summer with residents, partners, and organisations whose critical feedback helped to further shape the plan into its final format.
Councillor Andrew Johnson, leader of the council, said: “There are significant opportunities for the borough to go from strength to strength, but there are also challenges that we need to tackle.
“Our Corporate Plan provides the overall strategic direction required to maximise the benefits of those opportunities and address the challenges, setting out the council’s priorities and specific goals for achieving change in the borough by 2026.
“It is an important tool to help focus our efforts and resources on the right things, something even more important than ever in the context of constrained budgets and rapid change.
“The overarching vision is creating a sustainable borough of opportunity and innovation and has three overarching objectives – thriving communities, inspiring places and a council trusted to deliver its promises.
“This plan focuses on the work of the council, but recognises that we will only succeed in fully achieving these goals through working together with our residents, communities, parishes, voluntary and community sector, statutory partners, delivery partners and businesses.”
The Corporate Plan sets out the council’s actions while also considering recovery from the Covid pandemic, wider changes in the shape of the economy, a growing and ageing population, persistent pockets of deprivation and inequalities, and the high housing costs across the Royal Borough.
In addition to the overarching vision and objectives, three further priority objectives have been identified under these, focused on: climate change and environment, quality infrastructure and a ladder of housing opportunity.
Our approach sets out how we will work to achieve these goals across every part of the council.
The plan is based on evidence showing the most challenging issues facing the Royal Borough and will last until 2026. It will be reviewed and updated annually to respond to progress made as well as new challenges and opportunities.
