Drivers expecting a full weekend closure on the M4 will be relieved to discover it has been replaced with overnight closures.

The motorway in Berkshire had originally been due to close for a full weekend but now National Highways (formerly Highways England) is reporting it will just been closed overnight on Friday, November 26 and Saturday, November 27.

A stretch of the M4 will be shut in both directions each night between junctions 6 for Slough and junction 8/9 for Maidenhead.

The first closure will begin at 8pm on Friday, with the motorway due to reopen by 6am on Saturday, November 27.

It will then close overnight from 8pm on Saturday, November 27 and is expected to reopen by 6am on Sunday, November 28.

There will be no closure overnight on Sunday.

During the overnight closures, all traffic will be diverted off the motorway and onto the A308M, A308 and the A355 or this route in reverse. Drivers are warned to expect delays and plan alternative routes where possible.
