A thunderstorm warning has been issued across Berkshire for Sunday afternoon (January 2) - with 'intense rain' a possibility across the county.

The Met Office yellow weather warning is in force from 12pm until 6pm - with the entire county covered including Reading, Slough, Bracknell,Wokingham and Newbury.

The latest hour-by-hour Met Office weather forecast for Reading predicts heavy rain is likely in the town between around 2pm and 3pm.

Elsewhere in the county, Slough is currently predicted to see rain between around 2pm and 4pm, while Bracknell is set to see rain fall between around 2pm and 3pm.

In the west of the county, Newbury is expected to see some rain at around 2pm, with heavy showers set to continue until around 3pm.

"A band of heavy showers and thunderstorms will move quickly eastwards today giving a period of intense rain and perhaps 15-20 mm of rain in a few places in an hour or less.

"These may be accompanied by lightning, hail and strong winds with a low risk that some places could see gusts of 50 mph."
