FIRST A POSSIBLE COURIER FRAUD:

We have received a report transferred from the Met. Pol. That they have received a call from an elderly resident in Windsor, that she may have been the victim of a Courier Fraud, but the details received from the victim are very confused.  Apparently, she received a call from ‘DCI Thompson’ a Fraud Officer from the Met. Pol. Based in Wembley.  He informed her that there had been fraud on her bank account and they needed her assistant to develop evidence.  Later they have tried to call her back, but the line has been continually engaged.  We will make a welfare visit to establish what exactly happened.  At the moment we do not known if any personal details were given to ‘DCI Thompson’.

These are still happening on a daily basis, but few are reported to us – either the potential victim recognises the scam and just puts the phone down, or the victim is reeled in and loses a lot of money and is afraid, or embarrassed to tell anyone.

If you receive one of these calls we need to know, to establish how widespread they are and the type of person being targeted.  This will help us to establish how they choose their victims – or where / how they get their details.  A success rate of 1% - that is one successful call in 100, generates a huge amount of money – and leaves a terrible trail of devastation behind them.

If you have been a victim, rest assured we will deal with you with great sympathy, discretion and support.  You have nothing to fear reporting it to us.
