FIRST CAN I THANK THE IVY CLUB, FOR THEIR KIND INVITATION TO PRESENT TO THEM TODAY.
We went through a great deal of crime prevention re burglaries and car crime and we then covered frauds and scams.
When I started to outline the issue of Courier frauds and started to recount how victims receive a phone call from a DC in the fraud department of the metropolitan police - usually Hammersmith, one of the attendees put their hand up and said - they had the call 2 days previously. When the DCI asked for personal details about her and her bank, she said she never gave out personal information over te phone and put the receiver down !!!
That is exactly what everyone should do. Whenever you answer the phone, the only word you use - is hello. You never give out your telephone number or name. If anyone starts to ask for personal details - just put the phone down. By engaging and chatting to whoever it is - they will ask you questions and you will give away personal information, even if you don't intend to. Well done that resident, they did exactly the right thing.
If you would like me to come and talk to your group - just email me with details at my police email below.
Thank you Ivy Group, you were a brilliant audience
