I am on A/L for a couple of weeks, so there won’t be any Alerts !

Keep safe – and well !

Many thanks to ‘Men’s Matters’, who invited me to present to them on Wednesday afternoon.

There are many groups for women to join in RBWM and I visit the various WIs regularly, but very few for men – particularly after retirement, when men can become isolated.

Men’s Matters started out several years ago as ‘Men in Sheds’.  It was somewhere men could go, to talk about men’s issues, hobbies and particular interests, after they had retired and their social groups shrank.  At the group they can talk about anything and – from my experience yesterday - have a really good time, they have certainly bonded and support each other – with lots of jokes and laughter !

We discussed burglaries, car crime as well as scams and frauds along with the necessary often very simple crime prevention measures which can prevent someone from becoming a victim.

If you are a man over 50, who is at a loose end and would appreciate some companionship – as well as trips out, lunches and a lot of laughter – email

Paul Samuels at samuelsberks@aol.com

If you would like me to come along and speak to your group – email me at

Jeffrey.pick@thamesvalley.police.uk

NEXT, my thanks to the Residents of Elgar Place, Bridge Avenue, Maidenhead.  We had a delightful coffee session this morning - and as always - our sessions include a lot of laughter - to help the medicine go down !!

My thanks to the residents - it is so easy to present to an interested and engaged audience - who participate !

NEXT: DON’T LET IT BE YOU – COURIER FRAUDS & SCAMS !

Several years ago, we were suffering from 'Courier Frauds' and ‘Courier Scams’ almost every day, so – working with local actors, we produced a series of three videos, using the experiences of victims, but their words, are being re-enacted by local brilliant actors.

The frauds have started again !

These videos are extremely impactive and detail exactly, how the fraud works.

This one details exactly what happens and how it works - the pressure they put on you is enormous. The victims are losing thousands and thousands of pounds.

If you get a one of these phone calls– and you hear the person say – this is DCI – whoever – at Hammersmith Police Station - just put the phone down – it never ends well !

The first one of the series - outlines the ‘Courier Delivery Scam’:

This is the second one in the series – dealing with ‘Courier Fraud’:

AND the third again dealing with ‘Courier Fraud’:

Aren’t our local actors brilliant Huh

SPREAD THE LINKS AND MESSAGE AS FAR AND WIDE AS YOU CAN.

NEXT – SEXTORTION EMAILS:

Dear Jeff

When I opened my computer this morning, there was an odd email. It is a ‘sextortion’ demand, which I found extremely distasteful, but also very disturbing, as the tone throughout is very threatening.

I am 86 years old and have NEVER, been on any ‘adult website’.

Regardless of the fact that this fraudster cannot have any indecent images of me, as none has ever been posted - I still feel vulnerable.:

The demand is for $1,550 in Bitcoin.  They provide a Bitcoin wallet address for the transfer. Obviously I have no intention of responding to this demand, but 48 hours has been given for me to do so, before sending the salacious video – supposedly of me -  to everyone in my contact list!

I find the incident concerning and wonder where the threats might go.  I would very much like to have your support and advice. You may wish to alert others – that this happens.

Regards

I can confirm that these emails should just be binned and moved into your SPAM folder.  They send them out by the thousand, in the hope of catching someone – who may have been to an adult site.  YOU HAVE NOT BEEN PERSONALLY TARGETED AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHETHER OR NOT YOU HAVE VISITED AN ADULT SITE – UNTIL YOU CONFESS AND MAKE CONTACT.

NEXT – FROM ON OF OUR MEMBERS RE STOLEN BIKES !

Hi Jeff

Just wanted to pass on some feedback - the report below was for my son's stolen bike.

6/3 – 7/3  Sunday 2 a.m. / Monday 1 a.m.  High Street.  Locked up bike stolen.  A grey mountain bike – WITH FRAME NUMBER.

We got it back within 24h !

I already had the frame number and some good close up photos of the bike - so that helped. But the clincher, was adding it to a couple of stolen bike websites.

The bike was found in a neighbouring garden and the finder took it in for safe keeping.  They also searched these same websites, saw my post about the stolen bike and contacted me through the websites

As you can imagine I was delighted! I wrote a blog post about it:

Cheers

Paul
