Had tea at Cliveden this week. They now do not offer lunch but tea only starting at 12pm. It seemed a strange idea but I suppose we have sandwiches for lunch. The food was fabulous with sandwiches, scones and cakes and lots of different varieties of teas. A lot if hotels now offer teas and Cliveden was probably quite pricey in comparison, but lovely at a fabulous venue.

I went to Cliveden for tea to celebrate a birthday with school friends, having been a number of times before. It was very disappointing. The tea was very average for the price and location. I have had better teas at a fraction of the £40 we paid (including added service charge). Nothing was exciting at all. I normally adore cakes but didn't want to try one. Two of us who go often didn't wish to say anything as the other two friends have never been before and this was a big treat. I will not be going again for tea. I also found the supercilious attitude of some staff very annoying. They treated a group of middle-aged women with less attention than those accompanied by men. BIG mistake! However, this was not the case with all those who looked after us, some tried extremely hard to please, which was appreciated.

UPDATE TO POST ABOVE
Following my previous post on this site I have received a reply from Cliveden to my Tripadvisor post, which was a duplicate of my post on this website. It is interesting that the only matter she addresses is the lack of male escorts. The quality of the tea we received (complete with fluorescent pink cup cakes) was not addressed. I have since looked at Tripadvisor again and the picture of the tea being served to another reviewer bears no resemblance to the sad display we were given. My memory had served me well. The current standard is unacceptable. I advise you all go elsewhere for tea! Cliveden's reply is given below;

How saddened I was to read your review, I do apologise that you did not enjoy your visit to us. We greet so many ladies without escorts and I am surprised to note how you felt. Had a special lunch at Cliveden recently and it was fantastic. The dining room has been refurbished and is lovely. A three course meal with an amuse bouche is £28 for a weekday lunch, which I thought was really good value. They have a new chef who used to have a Michelin star and he is hoping to get one for Cliveden now.

Had a meal here . Wellcooked tasty good welcome very friendly. Definitely worth another visit.If he continues is this way he will do good xx

Clivedon's Special lunch menu is not only excellent value for money but also a fantastic experience as guests are treated with the utmost respect and courtesy from arrival to departure.
Try it out for a special ocassion - you will NOT be disappointed.

Had a delightful lunch at Cliveden today. OK, I didn't actually pay and it is a touch pricier than your normal pub. The basic cost for a three course meal is £38, however it really was out of this world. The food, the service and the lovely view from the dining room makes it a very special experience.
