Welcome to the 2019 Cookham Festival website, where, over the next few months, you will be able to discover all the exciting and varied events that we have planned for May 2019. As ever we can assure you that there will be something for everyone in Cookham and our surrounding communities.
This year, in collaboration with WildCookham, we are starting really early by launching the “Wild About Cookham” photography competition. We are encouraging amateur photographers to get outside and record Cookham’s wildlife and wild habitats over the next 12 months, which lead up to the 2019 Cookham Festival. The photo competition will result in an exhibition at next year’s Festival with plans then to create a Wild About Cookham calendar for 2020.
The photographs will cover the months from May this year to April next and they will all have to be taken within the parish of Cookham. “We want to show the importance both of the flora and fauna in our community but also the crucial importance of the habitats where we find them”, says WildCookham chairman, Mike Copland. “We hope the images that are submitted will give us a real sense of the variety of life we have and the special places that still exist in the Cookhams. Both species and habitats are disappearing at an accelerating rate and we all need to appreciate just what is being lost and more importantly what we need to do to protect them.”
A panel of judges will select photos for the exhibition and visitors during the 2019 Festival will vote on the prize-winners in adult, under 16 and smart phone/tablet categories.
The first month for accepting photos is May 2018, so click on the link below to read or download more about the competition, including the rules and get your cameras out!
