We are concerned by the piece-meal approach and long delays in the provision of comprehensive flood protection and prevention measures. We strongly recommend that a programme and timetable be drawn up as a matter of urgency. We recommend that the B4447 road from the Pound to Cookham Village be raised above normal flood height. (As a short term measure, road markers should be erected in time of flood to permit high clearance vehicles to use the road). This would obviate the necessity to improve and strengthen the Causeway, which is grossly inadequate for modern traffic and is in need of maintenance, but which is a great asset both to local people and to visitors. We are aware of inadequacies in our existing aged drainage and sewer systems and we recommend that reports are made on all flash floods and drainage problems, particularly as new flood prevention measures are introduced. An extensive report on flooding is contained in the Report of Housing and Development on line/disc. |
