Cookham Parish Council is reaching out to multiple public bodies and figures in an attempt to alleviate the situation at Strande Park.

Last week, the Advertiser reported that the park home site residents were ‘afraid to leave their homes’ after mechanical diggers appeared on site and began decimating hedges and fences.

The licence holder, Sines Park Holdings Ltd, said this was because these were a fire hazard and this work had to be completed as a matter of urgency.

If Cookham Bridge had two-way traffic, it would encourage a rat-run of through traffic to Cookham from both directions, drawn from far and wide. The village street, Pound and Sutton Road would be constantly full of heavy traffic and frequently blocked.

We may grumble about our historic bridge with its limitations, but they are protecting Cookham from a far worse fate.

Disagree with the above post.
Keep the bridge one way only.
As an historic monument, if you like, its extended life span is far more important to this community than having any "benefit" whatsoever
in making it bi-directional and, as a direct consequence, have its foundations loosened towards collapse under the weight of traffic.
Regarding the proposed developments and over-bearing traffic, people have just got to show patience.
Or else use another bridge.

Reminder: Free swimming sessions for local teenagers this summer to aid water safety

Young people aged 13 to 17 years old can enjoy free swim sessions at two popular leisure centres during the school summer holidays, thanks to a water safety initiative.

Leisure Focus, our leisure operator, in collaboration with local partners including the council itself, is running its “Safe Summer Swim” initiative, with a mission to reduce the risk of young people getting into trouble in lakes and rivers.

The programme offers free one-hour fun swim sessions for 13- to 17-year-olds at Windsor Leisure Centre and Braywick Leisure Centre (weekdays only), until Friday 1 September, making swimming accessible and promoting water safety.

With up to 40 spaces available per session, this initiative seeks to provide local teenagers with an opportunity to learn essential water safety skills, improve their swimming abilities, and foster a greater appreciation for water-related activities.

Safe Summer Swim is funded by Leisure Focus Trust, Louis Baylis Trust, Shanly Homes, Baylis Media CIC, and the Royal Borough. Read more about Safe Summer Swim on our website. https://www.rbwm.gov.uk/news/free-swimming-sessions-local-teenagers-promote-water-safety-summer

Road closures

Part of Kings Lane in Cookham Dean will be closed on Thursday, August 31.

The road will be shut from its junction with Cookham Dean Bottom to its junction with Dean Lane from 8am until 4pm. A diversion route will be available via Dean Lane and Kings Lane.

The closure has been authorised so pole renewal works can take place on the road.

The organisers of this year’s Maidenhead Boundary Walk are looking for people who took part in the last official ‘beating the bounds’ in 1973 – the tradition the modern event is based on.

The Boundary Walk, which takes place on Sunday, October 1, is organised by the Rotary Clubs of Maidenhead Bridge and Maidenhead. It sees hundreds of walkers raising thousands of pounds for charity as they retrace the 13-mile route of the old Maidenhead Borough.

Revived as an annual event in 1982, the Boundary Walk is based on a much older tradition that stretches back to the granting of the charter which brought the Borough of Maidenhead into being in 1582.
