A REALLY GOOD 48 HOURS – VIRTUALLY NO CRIME TO REPORT ACROSS MAIDENHEAD AND THE VILLAGES !

NO BURGLARIES

AND

NO CARS BROKEN INTO NOR STOLEN !!!

FIRST:  ANOTHER CRYPTO CURRENCY FRAUD, REPORTED TO US BY A BANK AFTER INSTIGATING THE BANKING PROTOCOL:

The victim invested £200 in Bitcoin.  He was then contacted by an investment company who he signed up with.  They told him over time that his initial small investment was worth a huge amount and he should immediately invest more money.  He then sent them £20,000.

Then, when he heard that his trading account had doubled and was now worth £41,532, he asked them to sell everything, close his account and send the money to him.  Then - the company started to tell him that his investment value had gone down and it was now only worth £19.18 !

They then suggested a lawsuit, to try and regain the investment.  He therefore needs to send them more money to fund the litigation.  He tried to do that, but his bank thought this was a scam and suspended his account.

He went into the bank to have the account re-opened, so that he could send the company the money they had requested.  The bank instigated the Banking protocol and after going through it with him, refused and the police were called.

The victim is absolutely convinced the investment company is genuine, as initially, his investment doubled  and the litigation was absolutely necessary to get his money back !  Neither the bank, nor the police, were able to convince him, this was a scam !

Please be on your guard ?  This is the second example of a Bitcoin / investment company scam we have had in 2 weeks.  If these two have bubbled to the surface – thanks to very efficient banks protecting their customers – there will be more out there.  Usually, they ask for initial transfers to be below £5,000, so that banks are not alerted.  Once you have a transactional history with a company, further transactions are less likely to be considered suspicious.  So, they start with a lot of small transactions, then they increase, little by little, so that the Banking Protocol is not triggered.  The initial trigger is not made by a person, but a computer algorithm, watching everyone’s accounts, for unusual withdrawals / expenditure.  Scammers try and make the transfers of funds, look like normal expenditure.

PLEASE ALSO REMEMBER – THESE SCAMMERS ARE REALLY GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO.  In neither case so far, could we convince the victim, that it was a scam !

NEXT:  A request from PCSO Melita Diprose, who is dealing with the issue of groups of youths firing catapults at the swans on the Thames.  This happened in Eton, but the advice about this APP is really useful for everyone.

We have an issue, identifying exactly where offences are taking place.  Often it is recorded as ‘The Brocas’, but in fact these occur a long way from the Brocas, at the very end of Meadow Lane.

What we would like everyone to do, is download ‘what3words’ – it’s FREE.  It is an App you can download onto your phone or computer.  It looks like google maps and functions in the same way – apart from – where you place your cursor, it comes up with an exact location with a code of 3 random words, to identify it – exactly - to within a couple of feet.  If you move the cursor even a couple of millimetres, 3 new words location comes up, so it is very accurate.

SO – if you see a crime / suspicious activity / drug dealing occurring.  Pull up what3words locate the exact spot with your cursor – and send us those three words !  We can type those words into the search box and the exact location pops up.  We can then direct our resources really accurately, rather than sending them out to look around, to see where whatever it was, might have taken place.

Melita put the signs at - ///slides.become.intelligible and ///evenly.slang.inform

If you download the app and put these three words in the search box, you will see how it works.

Just think about how you would describe where these particular offenders stand to attack the swans, without what3words Huh

It is a brilliant resource, which will help us enormously.

NEXT:  SOME CRIME ARREST AND CHARGES RESULTS !

Tom Giles-Wyatt and Lee Wickenden have each been charged with one count of burglary, following a break-in on New Road on Monday afternoon

NEXT:  ARRESTED: A man has been arrested on suspicion of cocaine possession and 'drug drive' offences.

29th July, An officer from our TVP Neighbourhood Problem Solving Team and assisting Police Specials, spotted a vehicle travelling at speed on Wolf lane, Windsor and decided it would be worth a ‘stop’. Following a ‘stop-and-search’. A quantity of suspected class A drugs (cocaine) was found in the vehicle and some in his pocket.

The driver failed a roadside drug ‘wipe’ (which was positive for cocaine) and was arrested on suspicion of the following offences:
Possession of a controlled drug of Class A, contrary to s.5(2) of and Schedule 4, to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
Driving a motor vehicle with a concentration of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit, contrary to s.5A of the Road Traffic Act 1988.
Driving a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road or other public place when unfit through drink or drugs, contrary to s.4(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988.
His vehicle was also found to be damaged.
