Drivers using the M4 motorway in Berkshire should expect delays this weekend due to a planned closure. Both the eastbound carriageway and westbound carriageway are set to be closed from Friday night, October 28, until Monday morning, October 31.

The motorway will be closed between Junction 5 (Langley) and Junction 6 (Slough/Windsor). Traffic using the route will be diverted via the A4 and the A355.

The M4 is set to shut to traffic after 10pm on Friday. It is then due to reopen by 6am on Monday after being shut throughout both Saturday and Sunday.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "We'll be closing the M4 in both directions between junctions 5 (Langley) and 6 (Slough-Windsor) from Friday 28 to Monday 31 October. The closure will start after 10pm Friday 28 October and the motorway will reopen by 6am on Monday 31 October 2022. Traffic will be diverted onto the A4 & the A355."

The closure will be in place as part of ongoing work to convert a stretch of the M4 between Junction 3 (Hayes) and Junction 12 (Theale) into a Smart Motorway. Work on the £848million project started in 2018 and is set to conclude this year.
