A 13-year-old boy has died after being knocked down in a street by a suspected drug-driver.

He was hit by a red Audi TT on Switchback Road North, Maidenhead, at about 13:25 GMT on Saturday, police said.

He died later in hospital from his injuries.

A 34-year-old man from Wooburn Green, Buckinghamshire, has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and remains in custody.

Police have appealed for information about the crash, which happened near the junction with Shifford Crescent.

PC Joy Jarvis said: "I would particularly like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, saw the pedestrian or vehicle before the incident, or has any dashcam footage."

If you have any information please leave it on our website or call 101, quoting investigation reference number 745 (21/12).

I agree that there are problems on Switchback, but in this case the accident was by Shifford Crescent where the Co-op is, which is 30mph. It sounds like Max was walking along the pavement.

You are absolutely right Bagheera. The guy was apparently travelling at 70mph. Doesn't matter how many speed limit signs you have that guy would have ignored them.

I must admit I was not aware that the insurance company would have to pay for the funeral. I suppose they would have to pay for medical fees, so perhaps why not. I assume the crowdfunding page would allow the family to have the money now rather than fight for it from an insurance company at a very sad time.
