Flood Update
«
on:
January 20, 2020, 10:53:55 PM »
The river level peaked on Sunday at 74cm and is now falling.
The Jubilee Flood Channel was doing its job and was flowing at 80 cubic metres per second over the weekend, up from 10 cumecs last week.
The weather is under a high pressure system (highest pressure since 1957 reported at Sennybridge in the Brecon Beacons) and forecast dry (and cold).
The Flood Alert remains in place and we are continuing to monitor the situation.

The Environment Agency placed the Thames from Hurley to Cookham on Flood Alert on Sunday and it remains in force.
The latest EA information (18 Feb, 4:44pm) is that river levels are expected to remain high today 19/02/2020 and flooding of roads and farmland is expected to continue. No property flooding is expected in the Hurley to Cookham area.
The river rose yesterday, but stopped rising overnight, and is now at 87cm (10:00am 19 February). This is just 13cm short of the level at which we expect the B4447 Moor Road to flood at the National Trust Car Park, and the road to close. The Parish Council Flood Committee are keeping a close eye on the situation.
The Cookham Parish Council Flood Committee has also looked at the river flow rates. The combined Thames at Maidenhead and Jubilee River was 230 cubic metre per second (cumecs) on Monday morning. This compares with the maximum in December of 258 cumecs and in 2014 flood event of 384 cumecs. Looking at upstream flows Farmoor (Thames west of Oxford) was still steadily increasing on Monday morning as was Wheatly on the Thame. Reading has only increased slightly in the last 24 hours.
The Joint (West Berks, Bracknell, RBWM) Emergency Planning Unit reported on Monday that rivers are flowing well and appeared to be clearing. They are keeping a close eye on the Thames.

Just a quick email to say that the river is now below 60cm at around 57cm at 9:15 today.
The information on the Environment Agency website last night was as follows.
Property flooding is possible but no longer expected. River levels remain high on the River Thames as a result of recent heavy rainfall from Storm Dennis, but are gradually starting to fall. Flooding of roads and low lying land is expected to continue. Further rainfall is forecast today (23/02/20) with heavier rain tomorrow (24/02/20). Our response staff have been in the area clearing trash screens and checking defences. Please remain safe and aware of your local surroundings and refer to the 'River and Sea levels in England' webpage for current river levels. This message will be updated tomorrow 24/02/20, or as the situation changes.
