COMMENTS:

FIRST: From Ruth

Hi

I had an obvious scam telephone call on my landline two weeks ago, saying Amazon Prime were renewing my account at £79 a month.
As I do not have an account with Amazon. I knew it was a scam.  The man said, Amazon Prime were renewing my account at £79 a month. If I did not have an account, he told me to go to my computer and give details on a form, to cancel it.
When I refused, he hung up.
I rang the bank in case money was already being taken out, but unfortunately, due to the virus, I was on hold for a whole hour, before anyone could talk to me. I was reassured I had done the right thing but it concerns me that anyone else who had been caught, would have to wait so long to talk to someone at their bank.

Please warn others in case this happens to them.  Tell them just to put the phone down.

Many thanks Ruth.

NEXT: another sextortion scam email sent in by Mike.

The email is addressed to him and does contain a password.  Most of the passwords are genuine, but generally old no longer used passwords.  It says they have footage of him accessing a porn site and unless he pays $2,000 in Bitcoin, they will send to video footage they have to everyone in his personal address book.

Please be reassured, this is a scam email, sent to thousands of people, who have never been to a porn site.  SIMPLY BIN IT.

NEXT:  Annie has sent me a message received by a friend purportedly from City Police about a scam involving bank frauds.  It goes into detail and then asks the recipient to send it ‘to everyone they know’.

If ever you get a general message about scams / dangerous situations, with a request ‘to send it to everyone you know’ - BIN IT.  It is simply a means of spreading fear in the community.
