NEXT: Theft from cars. Can everyone remember our CLEAR CAR CAMPAIGN. Nothing should be left in cars. A jacket could have a wallet in a pocket. A plastic bag, may contain something of value. The most common items stolen from cars, are loose change from the centre console, we keep for possible parking charges and sunglasses. The Raybans stolen below, were worth over £150 !
Bicycle theft:
There has been a rise in bicycle theft.
Often when the victims report the incidents, they know the colour of the bicycle, but rarely the make, model and frame number.
We encourage everyone who owns a bike to place it up against a plain wall and take a photograph of it. Then put the camera underneath the bicycle and between the pedals, where the frame number is stamped into the metal. You may need to wipe it first if the bike is not clean. Then email the photos to yourself, in case they are needed.
Police officers continue to recover bicycles, but unfortunately, they cannot return some of them to the owners, as when they check them against in the police systems, the bicycles cannot be identified.
If you have purchased your bike from a local bike shop, the shop usually keeps a register of every bike it sells - make, colour, model, frame number. If you lose a bike, that should be your first port of call for bicycle information that the police will need to identify your bicycle.
Thames Valley Police would like to remind residents to lock bicycles when leaving in a public place, we also recommend using your bike lock when keeping in a shed or garage.
Please report any suspicious incidents, sightings or any information to the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 101, also please check your CCTV.
