FOR INFORMATION: The 6 dead sheep found by one of our PCSOs out on Patrol in my last message. It has now been established, they perished by natural causes. Vets have confirmed, it was likely caused by eating rhododendron and dog weed, growing in the fields nearby at the time. The incident has now been ‘No-Crimed’.
NEXT: We have had an input of cold callers right across the Borough, selling all sorts of things. Many thanks, to the dozens of you who rang through to let us know, where and when they were there. We immediately passed that information onto Trading Standards, who deal with cold calling specifically.
Some were saying, they were recently out of prison and were trying to make their way back into society, others, were apparently ex-military, on hard times.
I am grateful to those, who quoted our NHW Mantra at the callers. It always helps, if we all use the same words, it means you and possibly everyone in that area, is security aware and are not therefore, a soft target.
I AM SORRY, I DO NOT BUY GOODS AND SERVICES AT THE DOOR
NEXT: Lots more bikes stolen. If you own a bike you use around the town and leave in bike racks, please place it up against a wall and take a photograph. Then turn it upside down and take a photo of the frame number, stamped into the metal between the pedals. Email the photos to yourself and keep them. We recover lots of bikes, but can never return them to the owner, as they cannot ‘prove’, the bike belongs to them, by providing the frame number - Carrera, produces thousands of blue Vengeance bikes. How are you going to prove the bike we have, is yours ??
More often than that - they are never reported stolen.
We need to know when and how, bikes are stolen. We have a good idea about our local offenders and if we see them on a different bike, from the one they usually ride, it would be really useful to have pictures of all the bikes stolen, so that we have a justifiable reason, to stop check them and ask for proof of ownership ?
HELP US TO STOP THIS PROBLEM - AND - HELP YOU !
NEXT: Some Feedback re video doorbells:
Hi
I installed the main named manufacturer, of video doorbell. It has security lights, built in camera and alarm all for £185. My neighbour has a set from another company, quite similar, but no lights. The picture quality is very good.
Simon
These products are brilliant, particularly if you don’t have a burglar alarm. They send a sound alarm and video footage, each time someone breaks the beam and steps onto your property. You get this to your mobile phone, wherever you are - at home, work, on holiday, in bed asleep ! Depending upon your contract, this is stored for a period of time, in case you need to access it.
The most efficient and easy to install systems do require wifi, but there are hard wired versions, you can purchase
They can also be connected to additional cameras inside a house - for example - if you have pets, you like to watch.
You can also communicate through it. So, if someone is standing on your porch looking confused, you can ask them what they need - and - they can respond to you - as if you are inside the house ! They do not only operate when the doorbell is pushed. They record, each time the beam is broken.
You can scan through the footage regularly - even going back in time - to see if anything untoward has happened and if so, to send clips to your local Neighbourhood team at their group email below, or if you feel it may be connected with crime to the SR email below, setting out why you feel it may be useful to them. The kind of footage they need is anything relating to crime - for example - someone trying car door handles, or walking about suspiciously during the early hours and I have reported a crime nearby.
NEXT: An unusual blackmail scam - this time for companies. This is the type of email you may receive:
We have hacked your website and extracted your databases. How did this happen? Our team has found a vulnerability within your site that we were able to exploit. After finding the vulnerability we were able to extract your entire database and move the information to an offshore server. We will then damage your reputation if you do not pay 2,000$ in bitcoin.
It goes on in graphic detail. This is the first of these we have received and therefore, must take it seriously. If we find that many companies have been similarly contacted, we can confidently assume it is a scam.
Before responding, always report it to Action Fraud, as the Police have ways of tracking the servers, from where the messages were sent
99% of the time, these are scams, so never respond and simply bin them !

OLDFIELD, BRAY & HOLYPORT:
NO CRIME TO REPORT.
COMMENTS:
Several reports of automated calls from "BT" and "Amazon". They stating you need to push option 1 for fraud assistance either for an alleged overpayment, alleged renewal of contract or underpayment or fraudulent attack on your BT line.
Reports of elderly neighbours getting calls these as well - impacting on their mental health and well-being. They find if it difficult to simply put the phone down. The reports I have say that these calls have increased, while under COVID lockdown."
Still a lot of the standard HMRC, TV Licensing, Windows and other scams out there - BE ON YOUR GUARD.
