Three parts of Berkshire report an increase in coronavirus cases

Three areas of Berkshire have recorded an increase in the number of positive coronavirus tests in the past 24 hours, the latest data from the Department of Health and Social Care shows today (July 31).

In Slough, there are three more confirmed cases, Wokingham has two more, and Windsor and Maidenhead has one.

The total number of cases in the county now stands at 3,375. No new deaths have been reported and the total remains at 571 across Berkshire NHS trusts.

This is the latest breakdown of cases per area:

Reading : 803 cases (no change)
Slough : 664 cases (increase of three)
Wokingham : 607 cases (increase of two)
West Berkshire : 493 cases (no change)
Windsor and Maidenhead: 420 cases (increase of one)
Bracknell Forest : 388 cases (no change)
UK-wide, another 120 deaths associated with Covid-19 have been recorded in hospitals, care homes and the wider community, bringing the total up to 46,119. The number of cases now stands at 303,181 after another 880 were confirmed in the past 24 hours.

At a press conference this afternoon, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said new coronavirus measures brought in for parts of northern England with three hours' notice last night were designed to stamp out local outbreaks and he warned other parts of the country could soon follow.
