The number of new coronavirus infections recorded in Berkshire in the past 24 hours has reached a double figure spike.

Across the UK, there are now 309,005 lab-confirmed cases and 46,511 people have passed away after testing positive.

This represents an increase of 871 and 98 respectively over the same time period.

In Berkshire, the largest number of cases have been recorded in Slough.

Bracknell Forest and West Berkshire are the only areas to not record any new infections in the last 24 hours.

The total number of cases in the county now stands at 3,422.

No new deaths have been reported and the total remains at 572 across Berkshire NHS trusts.

This is the latest breakdown of cases per area:

Reading : 808 cases ( increase of two )
Slough : 689 cases ( increase of five )
Wokingham : 611 cases ( increase of two )
West Berkshire : 498 cases ( no change )
Windsor and Maidenhead: 425 cases ( increase of one )
Bracknell Forest : 391 cases ( no change )

For a breakdown of coronavirus deaths recorded by Berkshire NHS trusts since the start of the pandemic, please see below:

The growth rate and R value of coronavirus transmission in the UK has changed slightly since last week – with early indications the value may be increasing.

Figures published on Friday by the Government Office for Science and the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) revealed the growth rate to be between minus 5% to 0, slightly up from between minus 4% to minus 1% last week.

The reproduction number, referred to as R, for the UK as a whole is between 0.8 to 1.

In England, the R is between 0.8 and 1, but Sage has indicated it is not confident that R is currently below one in the region.
