FIRST:-MAN CHARGED WITH BURGLARY

Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police a man has been charged with burglary.

On Saturday 24th October Ashley Atkinson, aged 29 of Altwood Road, Maidenhead, was charged with one count of burglary.

The charge is in connection with an incident in Ascot between 10 and 11 October 2020.

He was arrested on Thursday (22/10) and will appear at Reading Crown Court on 23 November.

NEXT:  Lots of phone calls coming in from you, re suspicious people walking about in the early hours, as well as details of suspicious cars driving around slowly.  We are really grateful for this intelligence - please keep it comming !

NEXT:  Halloween - Families going out Trick or Treating.

Unfortunately due to Covid 19, we do not recommend anyone partake in Trick or Treat this year.  There is the difficulty of ‘fomites’ - virus particles left on surfaces - such as shiny sweet packets.  Just as with door handles / hand rails.  If you going to participate, think about not having a container of sweets for children to reach into, possibly contaminating other sweets.  One person has come up with a possible solution, they are putting up a washing line from their front door to the pavement and hanging the sweet packets on it.

Children cannot of course touch doorbells, or use door knockers Huh

It is another unavoidable consequence of the Pandemic this year.

This is the advice from RBWM:

Some Halloween activities carry more risk than others. Reduce the risk for you, your children and others while still having fun.

High risk activities
Trick or treating where children go door-to-door and treats are given out.
Parties of more than six people.
Do not substitute your facemask with a Halloween mask as this will not keep you safe.
Low risk activities you can enjoy
Have a pumpkin trail in your street, town or village - have fun with the children either carving or drawing pumpkins and place them in your window. Neighbouring children can have fun pumpkin spotting. You could give your children a prize for the number of pumpkins they spot.
Have a virtual pumpkin carving competition with your friends - carve your pumpkins at home and share the results via Zoom, Google or Skype.
Have fun decorating your house to make it look spooktacular! - there are lots of templates and crafting ideas on the BBC website.
Have a Halloween scavenger hunt - give your children a list of Halloween themed things to look for on their walk. Spiders or cobwebs for example. You can also do this in your home and hide some treats and spooky surprises instead!
Have a Halloween movie night at home - even for very young children there are some family favourites. Bake some Halloween treats to make it a special occasion, there are some great Halloween recipes on the BBC website and they even have recipes for Halloween biscuits!
Remember the safety guidelines:

If you’re hosting an activity it is safer outdoors - Keep to the rule of six and remember hands, face, space.
Remember that the longer you are with other people the higher the risk.
Maintain physical distance from people you don’t live with.
If you have COVID-19, have symptoms of COVID-19, or have been in contact with anyone with COVID-19, you must self-isolate and should not take part in any activities, or hand out treats.

NEXT: As part of our Winter Burglary campaign, we are offering FREE Home Security Surveys

As a Neighbourhood Team, we are offering free Home Security Surveys, to assess the current security measures in place in your home. We will work with you to identify opportunities, to make your home even safer. If you would like to arrange a survey, please email us at:

homesecuritysurveyrequests@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk

If you request a survey - we will phone you, to make an appointment.  We will attend in uniform, with gloves and a mask and will expect you, to be masked up as well - for everyone’s protection.

In an Alert message, the software does not unable me to put in ‘Links’ to email addresses or websites that you can just click on.  You need to copy the above email address and paste it into an email to us - saving the Home Security Survey email address in your address book.  It is the same for website addresses.  You will have noticed, I copy in full web addresses, which are sometimes rather long, rather than creating a Hyperlink.  Again, you need to copy the web address and then paste it into the toolbar of your search engine !

NEXT:  Another scam email, alleging the recipient, has been visiting mucky sites and demanding a payment into a bitcoin account, or they will share a video they have recorded, to everyone in their personal address book:

Hi

I’ve just picked up a really nasty scam sent at 19.40 today.  It’s quite a long email threatening to expose my use of regular visits to adult websites - I've never visited even one - and a demand for Bitcoin.

The subject is given as ‘Business offer’ and the threat is to expose my regular accessing of ‘adult websites’ unless $1,400 is transferred to the anonymous sender’s bitcoin wallet and a BTC has been provided.

I’m glad to be in touch with Neighbourhood Alert.

Many thanks T.  Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do in this country to remedy or track down these offenders.  As you can see the scammers required $1,400 in payment not to send a video to everyone in T’s contact list.  The police in the UK can only investigate crimes which take place here, otherwise you are involving international law and enforcement agencies.

These ‘emails’ are randomly computer generated.  A computer just sends them to combinations of letters and numbers.  99% will not be delivered as they are not real emails.  1% of those millions may be real.  The recipients have not been personally targeted by a person.  They are sent out by the million.  THEY ARE FAKE - JUST BIN THEM

DO NOT RESPOND - IF YOU DO - IT LETS THE SENDERS KNOW THAT THE EMAIL IS REAL AND LIVE.  They will sell that email address to other scammers.  It is a very valuable product and other scammers will pay a lot of money for list of active emails !

NEXT:  Video Doorbell / CCTV footage.
If you have a video Doorbell / CCTV, can you please check it regularly ?  We have been receiving footage from people, who have not been a victim of crime, but have footage of offenders, walking up and down their driveways and trying their car door handles.  WE NEED THAT FOOTAGE.

You may not have been a victim because you had good security, but your neighbours may have been.  There may be victims of crime, in neighbouring streets.  Your footage could show us a route they have taken between offences we can connect - and - you may have brilliant footage of an offender - perhaps not a face - but you will have clothing, height, trainers, stature, which would identify them - intelligence !

When you check your footage and you see anything suspicious in the early hours - please send it to the SR email below - everything is useful to give us a picture of what is happening on the streets.  It would also help us to plan our tasking of resources.  If we get a lot of footage from your area - even if crime is not happening  - we will target additional patrols !

NEXT: Covid funding from RBWM:

COVID-19 self-isolation funding

Employed or self-employed residents can now apply online for self-isolation funding under the Test and Trace support scheme. Payments of £500 can be made to qualifying residents through the scheme, which is due to run until 31 January 2021.

If you have been told by NHS Test and Trace to self-isolate and are unable to work from home, you can see full details of how to claim:
https://www.rbwm.gov.uk/home/council-and-democracy/contact-us/coronavirus-information-and-support/covid19-council-tax-and-benefits

Council Tax Hardship Fund
We are aware of the announcement made by Central Government of a Council Tax Hardship Fund and have automatically identified customers who are eligible to ensure that each Council Tax Reduction customer receives the support available. This is a maximum of £150 one-off payment for the year 2020/21, or less, where the outstanding Council Tax liability is less.

You will not need to apply for the Hardship Payment, it will be automatically posted through your Council Tax account if you qualify for Council Tax Reduction.  It will generate an adjusted Council Tax bill, you will then owe less, so you will know when this has happened. If this award puts your Council Tax Account into credit, we will refund this to you.

Coronavirus support for employees, benefit claimants and businesses
A range of extra support and measures will be in place to help workers, benefit claimants and businesses affected by coronavirus. For further information, see

The scheme is due to run until Sunday 31 January 2021 but will be kept under review so may be extended.
New package to support and enforce self-isolation GOV.UK website.
If you are working or self-employed and cannot continue as you have been told by the NHS to self-isolate, either because you have tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19 or you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive, you may be entitled to some financial support during your self-isolation period.

Who is eligible?
People who live in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead who have received notification from NHS Test and Trace that they have a legal duty to self-isolate, will be entitled to a Self-Isolation Payment, providing they satisfy all four of the following requirements:

However, you cannot receive payments on behalf of someone else; payments will only be made to the person who has been asked to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace.

Proof of the Account ID you have received from NHS Test and Trace to self-isolate;
Your National Insurance Number.
