A list of the major supermarkets and outlined their restrictions and safety measures.

Shops like Waitrose have even put caps on cleaning products, to avoid visitors hoarding them and leaving the shelves bare.

Some stores have stepped up their safety measures, stopping customers from entering the store with a partner.

Here are the measures in place at your local supermarkets:

Waitrose

Waitrose has placed caps on a number of essential products to ensure that customers can get what they need. There are caps on toilet rolls, hand wash and sanitisers, household cleaning products, flour, long life milk, dried pasta, flour and eggs

Aldi

Although Aldi currently has no caps on food, it is stepping up its click-and-collect service to accommodate for the increased demand. CEO Giles Hurley reassured customers that the stores would be regularly restocked through daily delivery and asked them to shop considerably.

Aldi has a traffic light system at its entrances to limit the number of people in the store at any time and encourage social-distancing.

Priority access is given to NHS and blue light workers, as well as the elderly and vulnerable.

Customers are not able to buy more than:

three bags of pasta,
two boxes of eggs, or
three items from across their entire range of cleaning products.
Hand sanitiser is available at all store entrances, and the first hour of trading is reserved for the elderly, vulnerable or NHS workers on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Sainsbury’s

After a recent update of the rules, Sainsbury’s is encouraging customers to shop alone where possible. The chain asks that children should only enter the store if they are not able to be left at home. Sainsbury’s has reinstated priority access for NHS workers and the vulnerable, reports The Mirror.

The store recently announced a new charity scheme in a bid to support elderly and vulnerable communities over the Christmas period. You can donate to the initiative whilst you’re completely your shop in-store, or online.
