There have been three further fatalities linked to coronavirus recorded in Berkshire, according to NHS England figures released today (December 24).

In the past 24 hours, 658 new cases have also been recorded.

Across the UK, the death toll now stands at at 69,625 and 2,188,587 people have tested positive for Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

This represents an increase of 574 and 39,036 respectively over the same time period.

In Windsor and Maidenhead, there has been a rise of 150 cases, bringing the total to 3,558.

Elsewhere, there have been rises of 128 in Slough, 114 in Reading and 104 in Bracknell Forest.

One new death was recorded at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust while two were at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.

This is the latest breakdown of cases for each area of Berkshire:

Bracknell Forest : 2,704 cases (increase of 104)
Reading : 4,327 cases (increase of 114)
Slough : 5,925 cases ( increase of 128)
West Berkshire : 2,722 cases (increase of 81)
Windsor and Maidenhead: 3,558 cases (increase of 150)
Wokingham : 3,545 cases (increase of 81)
This is the latest data on the total number of deaths at NHS trusts in and around Berkshire:

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust: 504 ( one new death )
Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust: 288 ( two new deaths )
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust: 24 (no change)

Around half of all new coronavirus cases in England could be the new variant discovered in the UK, according to analysis by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Concerns over the mutant strain, which scientists concluded was spreading more rapidly, mean millions of people in England will join those already under lockdown conditions from Boxing Day.

An estimated 645,800 people in private households in England had Covid-19 between December 12 and 18, according to the ONS – the equivalent of around 1.18% of the population, or one in 85 people.
