The river is still rising slowly in response to recent rain in the upstream catchment. The Environment Agency are in the area operating weirs to manage river levels. The river is up to 38cm on Boxing Day at 08.15am and is continuing to rise slowly. That's about 30cm higher than normal. In the past, the Moor Road has flooded when the river reached 100cm.

The Environment Agency issued the warning for the river around Purley village shortly after 7am today (Sunday, December 27) - and say that flooding to property 'is expected'. The warning remains in force as of 3pm.
Flood warnings, a step up from flood alerts, mean flooding is expected and immediate action is required.
The warning states: "Property flooding is expected. River levels are rising on the River Thames as a result of heavy rain overnight. Therefore, flooding of property is possible this morning 27/12/20, especially in areas of Purley close to the river. Scattered showers are forecast over the next 24 hours. We expect river levels to remain high over the coming days. We are closely monitoring the situation."
People in the area are being asked to be aware of their surrounding and avoid contact with flood water.
A number of flood alerts, which mean flooding is possible, remain in force for stretches of the Thames along the Berkshire border with neighbouring counties.
As of 3pm this afternoon, these are:
River Thames and its tributaries from Days Lock to above Pangbourne
River Thames from Pangbourne to Purley
River Thames from Mapledurham to Sonning
River Thames for Shiplake, Lower Shiplake and Wargrave
River Thames for Henley, Remenham, Medmenham and its tributaries
River Thames from Hurley to Cookham
River Thames from Maidenhead to Windsor and Eton
A Met Office Yellow Weather Warning for wind was originally set to be in force across Berkshire until noon today - however it is no longer in place.
The latest Met Office weather forecast for the South East states: "Heavy rain and strong gusty winds clearing southeastwards, but lingering across Kent during the early morning. Sunny spells following, with a band of showers clearing as winds fall light by midday.
"Isolated showers possible in the west. Feeling cold. Maximum temperature 7 °C.
"A mostly dry, clear and cold night with light winds and areas of fog or freezing fog developing. Along the south coast heavy showers and thunderstorms with hail are likely. Minimum temperature -4 °C."

River up to 70cm Monday 28th 8.15am. Jubilee River is being operated to gate movement 1, increasing its flow from 10 to 20 cubic metres per second, to alleviate water levels in Cookham. The Flood Alert remains in force for the River Thames from Hurley to Cookham. The river rose to 81cm by 5.45pm. 100cm is where Moor Road closes. No significant further rainfall is forecast, so fingers-crossed, that won't happen but I'll be keeping a close eye on the links from the Cookham Flood Warnings blogspot which has all the latest information.
The Environment Agency has used gate movement 2 on the Jubilee River but it cannot be used fully at the moment due to ongoing emergency repairs at Black Potts Weir. More details on the blogspot.They are monitoring closely and operating weirs to reduce flood risk in Cookham.

The rate of rise of the River Thames at Cookham had slowed overnight. At 86cm by 7.30am. Still high. Still on Flood Alert. A bit of sleet and rain in the forecast today but not much. Hopefully this is the first sign that the situation is improving.

Dear colleagues the flood committee had a meeting this morning as the guages in Cookham Lock has reached 60 cm which is the point at which we need to decide whether to open the flood hub to connect to the emergency services. We decided it was not necessary today to open either the virtual or the main hub however looking at the flow rate on the Thames from Reading to Cookham in may be necessary in the next few days to open, if that is the case we will be asking for volunteers to man the facility don’t all put your hands up at once!! The hub is there to provide information to our residence and also the emergency services who may not know who locality as well as we do,
Currently RBWM have not put into place their emergency command structure -but soon as they do who our hub will need to be up and running we will keep giving you information as things happen

there was another meeting this morning at 10.00 the guages are showing 89cm at cookham lock but are plateauing we are getting no reports of residences with problems, so the hub is not being activated

30/12/20 attached river levels from cookham flood blogspot (q.v.) which show that the levels at cookham lock are at 86cm down from 89cm last night are going in the right direction,thus the flood committee have once again assessed the situation and will not be putting the flood plan into action
