FIRST: WE HAD A CASE OF 2 MEN PURPORTING TO BE POLICE OFFICERS IN DEDWORTH:
5/1 Tuesday 6.15 p.m. Washington Drive. A care worker visited a client, who recounted how earlier in the day, he had been visited by 2 men, saying they were police officers. They said his wallet had been handed in to the police station and it contains a large amount of cash. If he would let them have his bank details, they will arrange for the money to be paid into his account. Ref. No: 43210005569There are no further details at this time. Can everyone be on their guard and warn any elderly of vulnerable neighbours / relatives. THE POLICE WILL NEVER DO THIS !
NEXT:- A ROMANCE SCAM IN MAIDENHEAD
6/1 Wednesday. The police received a distraught call from a woman, saying a man she had met online had been kidnapped in Yemen and needed help. She had sent out a large amount of cash out to free him, but she was still really concerned. The police carried out checks and have confirmed, it was a Romance Scam and the man was not at any risk. Please be on your guard from this type of fraud !!

Hi Jeff,
There's an email I was sent purporting to be from Royal Mail saying they had an incomplete address for a parcel they were trying to deliver.
Firstly, how would they have my email address and:
Secondly the reference number was invalid
As I suspected a scam, I went on the actual Royal Mail website, which showed the delivery number was made up !

AND from another member, who screenshot the text, in order to send it to me and get through our police virus protection:
The text is from – apparently – the Royal Mail, including the correct logo at the head of the message.
It then goes on – Due to a lack of a complete address, we have been unable to deliver your parcel. Please click on the link and complete the relevant details, so that we can re-deliver.
If we do not receive this information by return, we will return the parcel to the sender.
Fees will be payable for re-delivery. Please complete your bank details, when clicking on the Link.
Many thanks Fiona and other members who have sent texts and emails to me. As the shops have been closed, people have ordered large numbers of packages online – which will need to be delivered. We have then seen a huge number of scam delivery emails / texts etc. If you have ordered something online, they usually send you a delivery number, so that you can track delivery. Make a note of these reference numbers and keep them to hand in case you get one of these calls !!
AND – THERE IS NEVER A CHARGE FROM ROYAL MAIL FOR A RE-DELIVERY.

NEXT AN APPLE SCAM:
Hi Jeff,
Another e-mail scam I received today that I have not been aware of before- pretending to be from Apple with an invoice attached for $27.
To cancel it, within one day, I must click on the "cancel and manage subscription" button - which asks for e-mail and password to sign in !
It was obviously not from Apple, so I sent a copy to Apple’s phishing department.

I have received a letter from a bank in Hong Kong. Apparently someone there with a name similar to mine, has died, leaving millions on deposit in a bank account.
If I send them my full personal and bank details they will share it with me.
Needless to say - we binned it !!!

A hit rate of 1%, if 100,000 letters are sent will be a good return. When we first saw these some years ago, we thought because they were franked, we could find out from the post office who was sending them ! They told us – the franks wee faked and just printed on the fake envelopes !!!

A really good question. Each of the organisations which are targeted by mass scams, such as the banks, Amazon, Royal Mail – all have scam reporting contact details on their websites. They are really grateful if you forward scams to them, as they can then follow them up, to try and prevent them.
