WE ARE SEEING AN INCREASE IN THEFTS OF CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ACROSS RBWM.  IF YOU CAN, PARK IN A WELL LIT PUBLIC AREA – COVERED BY YOUR VIDEO DOORBELL / CCTV !

NEXT: We have received a report of another possible Covid 19 vaccination scam call.  Can everyone be on alert for these please and warn everyone you know – we are obviously not reaching everyone that needs to know.  I put out the correct procedures being followed last week.  If – anywhere in the conversation – someone asks for bank details or a payment of any kind – replace the receiver – it is a scam call !

NEXT:  YET ANOTHER SEXTORTION CASE !!!!

A woman has been the victim of a very common romance scam.  She met a man on a dating website and it now appears it may have been two men, purporting to be one man.  The ‘man’ posed as a doctor, working for the UN.

Over the course of several months, she believed they were getting in to a real and deep relationship.  During their conversations, he asked her for and she sent him, differing amounts of money – sometimes, hundreds of pounds at a time.
He claimed he needing it for various reasons including - airline tickets and also - that he had been taken hostage and needed to pay a ransom to gain his freedom.  The hostage story, is fairly common in these scams, as it means they can ask for much larger sums of money and play on the sympathy of the victim.

The aggrieved has calculated that she has sent him, many, many thousands of pounds, since their first contact.

The transactions have been done using Bitcoin as well as online gaming vouchers – as of course all transactions using these are both completely untraceable.

She is at last convinced that she has been the victim of a romance scam and made contact with the police.

We have clearly not reached all potential victims of these Romance Scams.  Please pass this onto everyone you know.  The victims are not always stupid to believe the stories they are being told.  The scammers are really good to ‘groom’ and suck people in.  Victims are both men and women, young and old.  The giveaway immediately – is a request for any form of financial assistance.  Particularly if the transactions use an untraceable form such as Bitcoin.  Even bank to bank transfers are not safe, as the scammers remove the money from the receiving bank immediately and pass it through dozens of accounts, almost always overseas, which are then untraceable.

PLEASE – PLEASE – PLEASE – PLEASE – DO NOT LET IT BE YOU – OR ANYONE YOU KNOW !
