To save people a wasted trip: Eton College has closed Dorney Lake to the public, it will still be open for private events. The gates are closed but the unpaved footpath around the site is still open. It is expected to be closed for the foreseeable future.

There were apparently complaints from local residents about people parking on the road outside the lake. The paid car park can only hold 70 cars, so a lot of people were apparently parking on the road.

This seems like the wrong decision to me. During lockdown, with children cooped up at home and sports venues closed, access to open space where people can exercise (and easily maintain social distancing) is very important for individuals and families. In my view this access is more important than some parking inconveniences.

I believe Dorsey Lake is owned by Eton College and it is just because people have not been respecting the area that the closure decision was made.
