Coronavirus rates are continuing to fall across Berkshire with some areas now recording fewer than 20 cases.

The latest Public Health England figures show the infection rate per 100,000 people is now very low, compared to being more than 1,000 in some areas in January.

Slough continues to have a higher rate than the rest of Berkshire and still has 66.9 cases per 100,000 people.

However, that pales in comparison to the peak in the town, where the rate was more than 1,200.

The second highest rate is in Slough's neighbour - the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

The rate there is much lower than in Slough and is 27.7.

Bracknell Forest's rate now is just 20.4.

In Reading, which had the second highest rates for a lot of the early party of 2021, the rate is now just 18.5.

Lower still is Wokingham at 17.5 and lowest of all is in West Berkshire with just 13.9.

The news comes as a blood donation centre is set to open in Slough for people who have had covid but not seriously enough to go into hospital.

The team involved is particularly keen for members of the Asian community to get involved with the project.

Today (Monday, April 12) marks the latest stage of the government's road map out of lockdown.

Shops, pubs and restaurants around Berkshire have all been reopening - despite an unwelcome dose of overnight snow.

The latest figures for Berkshire

Slough, 66.9 down from 82.9

Windsor and Maidenhead, 27.7 down from 58.1

Reading, 18.5, (30) down from 33.4

Bracknell Forest, 20.4 down from 36.7

Wokingham, 17.5 down from 33.3

West Berkshire, 13.9, down from 25.9,
