All drivers in the UK with a petrol or diesel car are set to be hit by a hike in car tax.

As of April 11, 2022, the amount everyone not driving an electric car pays in Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) is set to rise.

VED rates - more commonly known as car tax and often incorrectly referred to as road tax - are set to rise by up to £120.

Drivers who own car models that produce more air pollution are set to be more affected than others, as the VED rate will jump to £2,365 for cars that produce more than 255g/km of CO2 pollution.

Those who drive cars producing between 226g/km to 255g/km will have to fork out an extra £105, and the fees for vehicles producing 191g/km to 225g/km is increasing by £75.
