Drivers heading towards London on the M4 are warned to expect delays this weekend as a stretch of the motorway is closed. The full weekend closure begins on Friday night with the road due to reopen in the early hours of Monday.

Only the eastbound carriageway will be closed between junction 8/9 for Maidenhead and junction 6 for Slough. The closure, part of smart motorway work to make the road four running lanes, is due to begin at 8pm on Friday, April 1.

The M4 carriageway and related slip roads are expected to reopen by 6am on Monday, April 4. The westbound carriageway will remain open for the whole weekend.

Drivers are warned to allow more time for their journeys as they face a 7.5 mile diversion. All traffic will be diverted via the A308M, A308 and the A355. The closure between Slough and Maidenhead had been originally planned for last weekend.
